Vidya Balan: the tremendous transformation

Bollywood actress Vidya Balan is playing the role of Kollywood’s first and former item girl ‘Silk’ Smitha in her upcoming film titled ‘The Dirty Picture’ directed by Milan Luthria. The actress, who has always managed to sink her teeth in meaty roles instead of indulging in skin-show, is said to have undergone a tremendous transformation in her effort to portray the role in a convincing and realistic manner. Her natural looks of a typical lovely and charming heroine have given way to voluptuous and seductress looks of an ‘item’ girl.‘Silk’Smitha, with her dreamy eyes, ruled the roost as the quintessential ‘item girl’ of Kollywood for close to 15 years during when she paired up opposite all the leading heroes in Tamil including Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan on a number of occasions. In fact, there was a time when distributors would plead with the produces to add a song of Smitha in the film so that they could confidently distribute the film in theatres!
It may be recalled that Vidya fell ill and developed rashes all over her body after the shooting for a bathing sequence shot in a bath-tub. She was rushed to the doctor who said that her skin hadn’t taken ‘kindly’ to the water used for the bathing sequence. On the doctor’s advice, the crew then filled the bath-tub with mineral water and re-shot the same sequence a few days later.
Heroines, who usually stay in air-conditioned rooms and take utmost care of their skin, tend to face challenges like these from time to time. Having said that, it should be mentioned that Vidya has gone out of her way in preparing herself for the role.
The actress is said to have perfected the art of ‘smoking’ and ‘drinking’ as it is required to be done frequently in the film for her role. It seems that she is allergic only to water not to alcohol or nicotine.
